¾«¶«Ó°Òµ empowers female data collectors who work in their communities to collect high-quality family planning data which is used for decision-making by an increased range of stakeholders to inform policy and programs. During one of our training sessions in Machakos, Kenya, we spoke to some data collectors who talked about their experiences working on the project. Read their stories.

Voices From the Field – Data Collectors on Working for ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ and the Impact of COVID-19

One feature that makes ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ unique is the cadre of highly-trained female data collectors (known as resident enumerators, or REs) who work in their own communities, thus establishing a rapport with female respondents that produces reliable information on sensitive topics, like abortion. 

We recently spoke with several REs from Burkina Faso, India, Nigeria, and Uganda on their experience working with ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ and how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting them personally, as well as their communities.

Impact de la COVID-19 sur les habitudes des Burkinabè et l’accessibilité aux services de santé

Pour limiter la propagation de la pandémie de COVID-19 qui met le monde entier à genoux, le gouvernement du Burkina Faso a pris des mesures restrictives telles que des couvre-feux, la fermeture des marchés et des gares, la suspension des prix, etc. ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ étudie l'impact de COVID-19 sur la vie quotidienne des Burkinabè et l'accessibilité des services de santé en menant une enquête dans les régions du centre et de l'ouest du pays. Nous avons également parlé avec certains de nos enquêtrices pour en savoir plus sur leur expérience de travail avec ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ et sur la manière dont COVID-19 es affecte, ainsi que leurs communautés.

Behind the Scenes of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµâ€™s Data Collectors

Performance Monitoring for Action, besides providing high-quality data on family planning and sexual and reproductive health, also empowers the women data collectors associated with it and gives them confidence that extends beyond the project. The tireless women data collectors, known as Resident Enumerators, while being on an unstoppable spree of absorbing skills and knowledge during ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ training sessions in Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur – showed some light on how ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ has been instrumental throughout in overcoming barriers they face in their mental, physical, and financial growth.
